Present Area Art

Pig Newtons

Lawrence, 2020

Pig Newtons is a present-era watercolor painting. Made by a man named Lawrence, using his family and their antics as inspiration. A common attribution of this piece is of a Louie CK joke but is based on events in his own life. The painting is a play on the words of a pig and fig newtons making pig newtons.

Out of Stock

Lawrence, 2020

Out of stock is a present-era watercolor painting based on the recent shortage of supplies due to the overreaction of people going out and buying all sanitizer and toilet paper resulting in the shortage. The painting depicts happy toilet paper and sanitizer.

Tickle Temple

Ede László, 2020

Budapest, Hungry

Tickle Temple is a digital art of background scene showing a man on a horse and a man walking into a canyon with dust billowing all around. In the background, there is a hand-like shape.

Tickle Temple 2

Ede László, 2020

Budapest, Hungry

Tickle Temple 2 is a different angle of tickle temple. Showing the man walking up to the valley we can see that hand like shapes before are indeed hands made out of stone, the mouth of the valley is also made of these stone hands creating a sense of mystery. As you will notice the name is unusual for an art piece. The artist is particularly known for naming his art strange names just cause it is fun.

Hot Dog Shark Chicago Style

Bagmanstudios, 2020

Hot Dog Shark is a digital art piece created by Bagmanstudios of a shark but in the form of a Chicago-style hotdog while also being reminiscent of older art that has been modernized

Tiger Soup

Bagmanstudios, 2020

Bagmanstudios creates an image of a tiger in a can under the name of Tiger soup. Tiger soup is a digital art piece showing a tiger shooting out of a can of soup with an extremely long torso like a snake. This art piece is a reference to a snake in a can.

Thoughts

I selected each of these artists under the same theme of being modern, strange, and nontraditional. Each piece has a characteristic that sets it apart from other art. The digital art of Bagmanstudious shows modern older style art that plays with terms or ideas in a fun and interesting way while retaining realistic features in absurd animals. Lawrence takes moments in his life and creates them in his art as in food or cute animals like pig newtons or in reflections of moments in life such as sanitize. Lastly the art of Ede László, at first appearing as if it is a normal art piece showing an intense scene of two men entering a valley but the second angle shows a strange almost abstract setting with the walls of the valley being made of stone hands and the large rocks around them also being made of stone hands. Each of the pieces of art is strange enough to stand out not only from each other but most other art I have found today. All of the art sparks joy in the creativity and wordplay, happiness and joy to inspire smiles and laughs.

  1. Hi. I like the pig newtons because they are a simple watercolor painting. The out of stock watercolor painting caught my eye, because it is what we are going through right now, the Covid-19 pandemic. It is what is going on right now, and it is so much trouble, and it made everyone so distant with each other, through social distancing. Wearing masks is the new norm for everyone also, and we have to wear them to keep safe and to keep everyone around us safe.

  2. I think you follow your theme of modern, strange, and nontraditional really well. Each piece of art is unique in its own way. The Pig Newton piece is my favorite one so far. I like how each piece of art is a representation of something that is real. It gives a different perspective of the original item. The hot dog shark one is also really interesting to see and to also think about. Overall, this was a really cool blog to look at.

  3. Such cool and creative works! I really like all the ones you chose, since they're all so unique and creative. I think my favorites were the watercolors, since they're just so cute and clever. I also really like the digital art you chose. I love how advanced technology like the Procreate app is making it so easy for the everyday, average person to make stunning art when they don't have access to expensive materials or a large workspace. I think it really lets people tap into their full potential as artists, which is a really cool thing to think about.

  4. I enjoyed the art you chose for this blog posting. You are right. They are all unique and fun in their ways. My favorite one out of them would have to be the tiger soup. The blue textured background stands out to me. It brings out the entire drawing. Also, the way the sake-like tiger is drawn shows so much movement. Entertaining blog! Thanks for sharing these pieces.
